Porto Timoni
One of the most beautiful and popular hiking tours in Corfu can be found below Afionas and is the famous double beach of Porto Timoni, which is essentially two beaches, separated by a narrow strip of land. The left is called Limni and the right is Porto Timoni. Upon descending to Porto timoni, the amazing view of Agios Georgios bay to the right and the wild vegetation to the left, along with the ruins of medieval fortifications that protected the area from pirates and corsairs will fascinate you. If you continue on the same path, you'll reach Cape "Akra Arilla" with the chapel "Agios Stylianos" which is pretty much carved in a cave. The entire end of the peninsula is called the «Head of Mourgis», because its shape looks like a dog’s head.
Access to Porto Timoni is either through the narrow paths descending from the village of Afionas, or by sea from the bay of Agios Georgios.
A relatively easy trail leads down to the incredible double beach. The hike down takes abouts 20-30 minutes and is a rather steep trail with large rocks. There are no facilities at the beach.
Afionas Village
At the center of the village is a traditional square and the church of Agios Ioannis of Lampataris, with its imposing bell tower, built in 1636. The church celebrates on June 24. In the village there is a monument dedicated to the memory of the hero Hector Gialopsos. Hector Gialopsos died during the short-lived military Imia crisis between Greece and Turkey. Afionas is particularly popular for the stunning sea views and glorious sunsets. The sunset can also be admired from a bench at the "Afionas Sunset" vantage point. Stroll around the village’s narrow streets with the colorful houses and enjoy panoramic views of the Ioanian Sea and Diapontia Islands. At the village you'll find some cafes, Panorama restaurant and tavernas, souvenir shops and bakery.
